Connecting a Brokerage

Link an investment account so balances, holdings and contributions sync on their own.

Last updated September 8, 2026

Connecting a brokerage keeps your investment balances, holdings and contribution history up to date without you touching them. Brokerage connections are handled by SnapTrade, and they are available on the Personal and Household plans.

This is separate from bank connections, which run through Plaid. You can use both: a chequing account through one and a brokerage through the other.

Connecting

  1. Open Settings → Connected Institutions
  2. Under Brokerage, select Connect brokerage
  3. Choose your brokerage from the list SnapTrade shows, then sign in on your brokerage's own page
  4. You are returned to NivoaFlow and your accounts appear

Your brokerage credentials are entered on your brokerage's site, not ours. NivoaFlow never sees or stores them.

What Syncs

  • Balances: the current value of each account
  • Holdings: the positions inside each account
  • Activity: deposits, withdrawals, dividends and trades
  • Balance history: point-in-time snapshots, so your net worth has a trend line rather than a single number

Registered Accounts

Designate an account as a TFSA, RRSP or FHSA once, and its deposits and withdrawals feed contribution-room tracking.

Only deposits and withdrawals use room. Dividends, trades and growth sync for your records and never count against a cap. That is a CRA rule rather than a decision of ours, and it is the reason a registered account can be worth far more than you have contributed without eating into your room.

Keeping It Current

Your brokerage notifies us when something changes (a trade, a deposit, a change to the connection) and we re-sync straight away. We also re-check every connection once a day, so a missed notification does not leave your figures stale.

To pull immediately, use Sync beside the connection in Connected Institutions.

Adding a Second Brokerage

Select Add brokerage and connect it the same way. Each brokerage is listed by name with its own accounts, so two connections never read as one anonymous block.

If a Connection Breaks

Brokerages expire access periodically, and some ask you to re-authorise after a password change. When that happens the connection is marked as needing attention and you are offered Reconnect brokerage. Reconnecting keeps your existing accounts and history; it does not create duplicates.

Disconnecting

Select the connection and choose Disconnect. We remove our link and ask SnapTrade to delete their record of you.

Accounts and transactions already in NivoaFlow stay where they are, so your history and net worth are not rewritten. Delete the accounts themselves if you want them gone as well.
