LiquidBudget describes itself as the cheaper, sleeker envelope budget. Its site lists a bucket-based envelope budget with credit card payment pools, quick-assign goals, reports, projections, tags, recurring transactions, a developer API, YNAB import, and free iOS and Android apps with a subscription. Bank sync runs through Plaid, which is included, or through an optional SimpleFIN account. Its FAQ lists $5 a month or $50 a year in US dollars, and a 45-day free trial with no credit card. In the pages we checked, we did not find RRSP, TFSA or FHSA tracking listed. NivoaFlow supports envelope budgeting as one of five budget strategies, adds TFSA, RRSP and FHSA contribution room on the Personal plan, and explains in plain words where you stand and what each choice could do to your future. NivoaFlow has a free plan with manual entry and CSV import, and a 35-day Personal trial with no credit card. Bank sync is part of the paid plans.

Envelope budgeting: one method or five
LiquidBudget is built around the envelope method: assign every dollar to a bucket, track spending against it, and carry balances forward. If you are a committed envelope budgeter, it is a focused tool. NivoaFlow supports envelope budgeting too, as one of five strategies alongside zero-based, 50/30/20, pay-yourself-first and spending tracker, so you can change method without starting over.
Bank sync
LiquidBudget lists Plaid sync included with the subscription, and SimpleFIN as an optional provider that needs its own account. NivoaFlow also uses Plaid for bank sync, and SnapTrade for brokerages, on the Personal and Household plans. Which Canadian institutions connect depends on the provider, so check the coverage for your own banks before you pay for either.
