Multi-Currency Accounts
How NivoaFlow handles multiple currencies, exchange rates, and reporting across different account currencies.
Manage Money in Multiple Currencies
Whether you hold a USD savings account, receive income in GBP, or track investments in EUR, NivoaFlow handles it all. Every account can be set to any of the four supported currencies.
Supported Currencies
- CAD — Canadian Dollar
- USD — US Dollar
- GBP — British Pound
- EUR — Euro
Setting Your Default Currency
Your default currency is set during onboarding and determines how reports, budgets, and net worth are displayed. You can change it anytime in your account settings.
How Exchange Rates Work
NivoaFlow automatically refreshes exchange rates every six hours. These rates are used to convert account balances and transactions into your default currency for reporting purposes.
The actual amounts in each account remain in their original currency — conversion is only applied for consolidated views like net worth and spending reports.
Multi-Currency in Practice
Net Worth
Your net worth dashboard shows all accounts converted to your default currency. A USD account holding $5,000 USD is displayed as its CAD equivalent at the current exchange rate.
Budgets
Budgets operate in your default currency. Transactions from accounts in other currencies are converted at the rate on the transaction date for budget tracking.
Reports
Spending reports and trends consolidate all currencies into your default currency so you can see your complete financial picture in one consistent unit.
Setting an Account's Currency
When creating or editing an account, select the appropriate currency from the currency dropdown. For bank-synced accounts, the currency is set automatically based on the account information from your bank.
Tips for Multi-Currency Users
- Set your most-used currency as the default — this keeps most reports accurate without conversion
- Check exchange rates periodically — rates update every six hours, so very recent fluctuations may not be reflected immediately
- Use manual accounts for foreign banks — if Plaid does not support your foreign institution, create a manual account in the correct currency
