Two Ways to Track a Goal

When you create a goal in NivoaFlow, you choose between two tracking modes — Link to account for automatic tracking, or Save up manually for full control over each contribution.

Your goal progress mirrors the balance of a linked account. As the account balance changes, the goal progress updates automatically.

Best For

  • Goals with a dedicated savings account
  • Emergency funds in a separate account
  • Down payment savings in a TFSA, FHSA, or savings account

How It Works

When creating or editing a goal, choose Link to account and pick a chequing, savings, or line-of-credit account. The goal then offers three balance-tracking options:

OptionWhat It Does
Entire BalanceUses the full account balance as goal progress
PercentageTracks a percentage of the balance — useful when one account serves multiple goals (e.g. 50% of a shared savings account)
Fixed CapTracks up to a set amount of the balance (e.g. $10,000 of a $50,000 TFSA)

Deposits push the goal forward, withdrawals pull it back. Manually adding funds has no effect on an account-linked goal — the linked balance is the single source of truth.

Example

You link your "Vacation Fund" goal to a savings account with $1,200. Your target is $3,000. Progress shows 40% complete. When you deposit another $500, the goal automatically updates to $1,700.

Save Up Manually

You log contributions yourself using the Add Funds button on the goal row. The amount you've saved is whatever you've recorded — your money never moves inside NivoaFlow.

Best For

  • Goals where savings are spread across multiple accounts
  • Cash savings or accounts you don't want to connect
  • Anyone who prefers to record one-off deposits like bonuses, refunds, or birthday money

How It Works

  • Pick Save up manually when creating the goal
  • Click the + button on the goal row whenever you want to add (or remove) funds
  • Each entry shows up in the goal's history view

You can also link individual transactions to a manual goal — see linking transactions to goals.

Choosing Between Modes

ModeUse When
Link to accountYou have a dedicated account (or a portion of one) earmarked for this goal
Save up manuallyYour savings are spread across places, or you'd rather log contributions yourself

You can switch modes at any time by editing the goal — your progress is recalculated based on the new mode.
