Household Roles Explained

Understand the household roles and what each one can do

Last updated May 2, 2026

The Roles

Every adult household member has one of four roles. Each role has different permissions to keep your household organised and secure.

Owner

The person who created the household. Full control over everything.

  • Manage all members and roles
  • Access billing and the Stripe Customer Portal
  • Connect and share accounts
  • Add, edit, and delete transactions
  • Manage ownership rules and household goals
  • Delete the household entirely
  • Limit: one Owner per household

Partner

A trusted co-manager — typically your spouse or partner.

  • Invite, remove, and change member roles (except Owner)
  • Connect and share accounts
  • Add, edit, and delete transactions on shared accounts
  • Manage household goals and ownership rules
  • Cannot delete the household or change billing

Member

An active participant who manages their own data within the household.

  • Add, edit, and delete their own transactions
  • Share their own accounts with the household
  • Contribute to shared household goals
  • Create categorisation rules
  • Cannot invite or remove other members

Viewer

View-only access for someone who needs visibility without editing.

  • View shared accounts and transactions
  • View reports and dashboards on shared data
  • View household activity feed and goals
  • Cannot add, edit, or delete data
  • Cannot connect accounts or change household settings

Changing Roles

The Owner and Partner can change member roles at any time from Settings > Household > Members. Role changes take effect immediately, and the affected member sees their new permissions on the next refresh. See Inviting and Managing Household Members for the full management flow.
