Inviting and Managing Household Members

How to invite people to your household, accept invitations, manage pending invites, and remove members.

Before You Start

You need an existing household and the Owner or Partner role to invite new members. If you have not created a household yet, see creating a household. The Household tier subscription is required.

Sending an Invite (Owner or Partner)

  1. Sign in and go to Settings > Household
  2. Select Invite Member
  3. Choose the role for this person:
    • Partner — your spouse or co-manager. Full edit access except billing and household deletion
    • Member — an active participant who manages their own transactions and accounts
    • Viewer — read-only access. Useful for parents, advisors, or anyone who needs visibility without editing
  4. Choose how to send the invite:
    • Enter an email address — we send a personalised invite link to that address
    • Copy a shareable link — useful if you would rather send the link through your own messaging app
  5. Select Send

Each invite link is single-use and expires after 7 days. If a link expires before it is used, simply send a new one.

For a full breakdown of what each role can and cannot do, see household roles explained.

Accepting an Invite (Recipient)

If you have been invited to a household:

  1. Open the invite email and select Join household, or paste the shareable link into your browser
  2. If you do not yet have a NivoaFlow account, you will be prompted to create one. If you already have an account, sign in
  3. Review the privacy notice — this explains exactly what the household owner will and will not be able to see about you
  4. Select Accept invitation

You will be taken straight into the household. Any accounts you have already connected stay private until you choose to share them — see sharing accounts.

Tracking Pending Invites

Owners and Partners can see every outstanding invite from Settings > Household > Members > Pending. For each invite you can:

  • See the email it was sent to and the role it grants
  • See when it was sent and when it will expire
  • Resend the email if it was lost
  • Revoke the invite to invalidate the link immediately

Revoking an invite is the right move if you sent it to the wrong address, or if the recipient no longer needs access. The link will stop working straight away.

Removing a Member

Owners and Partners can remove existing members at any time:

  1. Go to Settings > Household > Members
  2. Find the member and select the menu next to their name
  3. Choose Remove from household
  4. Confirm — you will see a summary of what will happen

When a member is removed:

  • They lose access to all shared accounts and household data immediately
  • Their personal accounts and transactions stay with them — only the sharing link is cut
  • Any transactions they entered into shared accounts remain in the household ledger
  • Partners cannot remove the Owner. The Owner can transfer ownership before leaving, or delete the household entirely (see creating a household)

Changing a Member's Role

Roles are not set in stone. From Settings > Household > Members, the Owner and Partners can change anyone's role at any time. The change takes effect immediately and the member sees an updated permissions banner the next time the app refreshes.

A common flow is to invite someone as a Viewer while you are getting set up, then promote them to Member or Partner once you are ready to collaborate.

Common Questions

  • Can I belong to more than one household? No — each person can be in one household at a time. Leave your current household before accepting a new invite.
  • Does the invitee need to pay? No. The Owner's Household subscription covers everyone, even members on the Free tier.
  • What if I sent an invite to the wrong email? Revoke it from the Pending list and send a new one to the correct address.
