Creating a Household

Set up a household to share finances with a partner or family

Last updated May 2, 2026

Overview

A household lets you share financial data with a partner or family member while keeping control over what's visible and who can do what. It's designed for couples and small households managing finances together.

Household tier subscription required.

Creating Your Household

  1. Sign in and go to Settings > Household
  2. Select Create Household
  3. Name your household (for example, "The Smiths" or "Our Family")
  4. You automatically become the Owner

Inviting Members

Once your household is created:

  1. Select Invite Member
  2. Enter an email address (or generate a shareable link to send through your own messenger)
  3. Choose the role:
    • Partner — full edit access, except billing and household deletion
    • Member — manages their own transactions and accounts
    • Viewer — read-only access, useful for parents or advisors
  4. The invitee receives a personalised invite link valid for 7 days

For the full step-by-step (including pending invites and removing members), see Inviting and Managing Household Members.

The invited person needs a NivoaFlow account. If they do not have one yet, they can create a free account and accept the invitation.

Free Members Get Premium Access

Here is a great benefit of the Household tier: when you invite someone who is on the Free tier, they automatically get premium access through the household subscription. They do not need their own paid plan — yours covers them.

That means a couple can have one Household subscription and both partners benefit from Plaid sync, reports, debt planner, forecasting, and the rest.

What Happens Next

After creating your household:

  • Choose which accounts to share — you control what's visible. See sharing accounts.
  • Set ownership rules — auto-tag transactions on shared accounts as Mine, Theirs, or Ours. See shared goals and ownership rules.
  • Start collaborating — view shared accounts, coordinate budgets, and track household goals together

Household Limits

  • Each person can belong to one household at a time
  • The household Owner manages billing through their subscription
  • The Household plan currently includes 2 adult seats — see household seats and billing

Leaving or Deleting a Household

  • Members can leave a household at any time from Settings > Household
  • Only the Owner can delete the entire household
  • Deleting a household removes the sharing links but does not delete anyone's personal data. See deleting your account for full account deletion.
