Deleting Your Account
How the grace-period account deletion process works
PIPEDA-Compliant Deletion Flow
We take account deletion seriously. To protect you from accidental or unauthorised deletion, deletion uses a grace-period process: when you request deletion, your data is hidden immediately but is not destroyed until the grace period ends. You choose between 7 days (quick cleanup) and 30 days (recommended).
This deletion flow is designed to support PIPEDA-aligned privacy rights — see PIPEDA and privacy for the policy detail.
How It Works
Step 1: Request Deletion
- Sign in and open Settings
- Select the Data & Deletion tab
- Select Delete Account
- Tell us (optional) why you are leaving — this helps us improve and you can skip it
- Choose your deletion timeframe: 7 days or 30 days
- Type DELETE to confirm
- Submit
We send you a confirmation email so you can spot any unauthorised request.
Tip: We also offer Reset financial data as a less drastic option — it clears your transactions, categories, rules, and budgets but keeps your login and preferences. Look for it on the same page.
Step 2: Grace Period
During the grace period:
- Your financial data is hidden in the app and reports — premium features that depend on it are paused
- The deletion can be cancelled at any time, returning your account to normal instantly
- A countdown banner shows the exact date and time of the irreversible purge
- You can still Export Data during the grace period if you change your mind about a backup
Step 3: Permanent Deletion
When the grace period ends, the following happens automatically:
- All personal data is permanently removed — transactions, accounts, categories, rules, goals, budgets, and settings
- Plaid bank tokens are revoked — we disconnect from your bank and destroy the access credentials
- Stripe subscriptions are cancelled — no further billing
- Your email is removed — we do not retain your contact information
What We Cannot Do After Deletion
Once the grace period elapses and the purge runs, we cannot recover your data. There is no undo. The deletion is permanent and irreversible.
Before You Delete
We strongly recommend:
- Export your data — go to Settings > Data & Deletion and select Export Data. See exporting your data.
- Confirm subscription cancellation — deletion handles this automatically, but you can also confirm in the Stripe portal. See managing payment methods.
- Leave any household — if you're a household member (not Owner), leave first to keep things clean
- Consider downgrading instead — if cost is the concern, the Free tier lets you keep your data indefinitely at no charge. See upgrading and downgrading.
Cancelling a Deletion Request
Changed your mind? Any time before the grace period ends:
- Open Settings > Data & Deletion
- You will see a countdown banner indicating a pending deletion
- Select Cancel Deletion
- Your account and data return to normal immediately
Household Owners
If you are a household Owner and delete your account, the household is also deleted. All members lose access to shared data. Make sure to inform members or have them leave the household before proceeding. See creating a household for household management details.
