Upgrading and Downgrading
Switch between subscription tiers at any time
How to Change Your Plan
- Sign in and open Settings
- Select Plans
- Choose the tier you would like to switch to
- Confirm the change — this routes through Stripe Checkout for new subscribers, or updates your existing subscription in place
Upgrading
When you upgrade to a higher tier (for example, Free to Personal, or Personal to Household):
- Takes effect immediately — premium features unlock right away
- Pro-rated billing — Stripe charges you only for the remaining days in your current billing cycle, and the change is applied to your subscription via Stripe's standard subscription update flow
- No data loss — everything you have already set up carries forward
Common Upgrades
| From | To | What you gain |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Personal | Plaid sync where available, smart categorisation, advanced reports, tax-aware tracking, debt planner, cash-flow planning tools |
| Free | Household | Everything in Personal, plus shared goals, household roles, activity feed, and review queue |
| Personal | Household | Shared goals and budgets, role-based access, household activity feed, review queue |
See subscription plans and pricing for the full feature comparison.
Downgrading
When you downgrade to a lower tier (for example, Household to Personal, or Personal to Free):
- Applies at end of billing cycle — you keep premium features until your current paid period ends
- Your data is preserved — transactions, categories, rules, goals, and history remain intact
- Features are paused — premium features become unavailable, but nothing is deleted
What Happens to Your Data
Downgrading never deletes your data. If you later upgrade again, everything is right where you left it:
- Bank connections are paused (not deleted) when you lose Plaid sync
- Reports and dashboards are preserved but inaccessible on Free
- Household data remains if you downgrade from Household — you just lose sharing features
For permanent deletion, see deleting your account. To stop billing without changing tiers, see cancelling your subscription.
Switching Between Personal and Household
You can switch between Personal and Household without interruption. There is no need to cancel and re-subscribe — change your tier from Settings > Plans and Stripe updates your subscription in place, prorating the difference.
Switching Billing Frequency
To switch between monthly and annual billing, open the Stripe Customer Portal from Settings > Plans > Manage subscription. Switching to annual saves up to ~56% compared to monthly. See managing payment methods for details.
