Managing Notification Preferences
Choose which household alerts you want to receive and tune their thresholds.
Overview
NivoaFlow's notification system surfaces important household activity — large transactions, budget overruns, goal milestones, items needing approval. You can turn each alert type on or off and, where it makes sense, tune the threshold.
Household tier required. Notification preferences are scoped to a household, so each household you belong to has its own settings.
Where to Find It
- Open the household area from the dashboard sidebar
- Select Notification Preferences
The page lists every alert type with a toggle switch. The save button at the bottom commits your changes.
Alert Types
| Alert | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Spending alerts | Notifies the household when a single transaction crosses your threshold (default: large transactions) |
| Budget alerts | Notifies when a budget reaches 80% and again at 100% |
| Goal milestones | Notifies at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of a household goal's target |
| Bill reminders | Reminds the household about upcoming shared bills |
| Approval requests | Notifies when an action needs your approval (see review queue and approvals) |
| Review assignments | Notifies when a transaction has been assigned to you for review |
Setting a Spending Threshold
Spending alerts include a threshold field. When the alert is enabled, enter the dollar amount above which you want to be notified. For example, set it to $200 and any single transaction over $200 on a shared account triggers an alert. Leave it blank to use the household default.
How to Change Your Preferences
- Open Notification Preferences
- Toggle any alert on or off using the switch on the right
- For spending alerts, enter a threshold amount
- Select Save Preferences
A confirmation appears once your changes are saved. Changes take effect immediately for future events.
Where You See Notifications
Notifications appear in the household Notifications page, accessible from the household area. You can filter by Open (active) or Dismissed to clean up the list. Each notification can be dismissed individually once you have acted on it. See Household Activity Feed for the broader history of household actions.
Email and Mobile
Critical account-level emails (trial warnings, payment failures, security events) are sent regardless of the in-app notification settings — they are operational rather than activity-based.
NivoaFlow is currently a web-first product. Mobile push notifications are not yet available; the in-app notifications page is the source of truth on phones and tablets through your browser. Native mobile push will arrive with the dedicated mobile app.
Tips
- Turn on approval requests and review assignments if you handle transaction review for the household — these are time-sensitive
- Tune the spending alert threshold to a level that catches outliers without flooding you with everyday purchases
- Each member sets their own preferences, so a partner who only wants the big stuff can turn off goal milestones while you keep them on
