Account Settings

Manage your profile, security, connected institutions, and data

Last updated May 2, 2026

Where to Find Your Settings

Sign in and open Settings from the dashboard. The page is organised into four tabs:

  • Profile — display name, email, date of birth, province, default currency
  • Security — password and two-factor authentication
  • Connected Institutions — Plaid bank connections
  • Data & Deletion — export, reset, or delete your account

Profile Tab

Update your personal information from Settings > Profile:

  • Display name — how your name appears in the app and to household members
  • Email address — your login email (changing this requires verification through Supabase)
  • Date of birth — used for TFSA eligibility calculations and age-related features
  • Province — your province of residence, which affects tax bracket calculations
  • Default currency — CAD by default; change if you primarily use another currency

Connected Institutions Tab

View and manage your linked financial institutions:

  • See all connected institutions and their status (active, needs re-authentication)
  • Reconnect institutions that need re-authentication — this happens occasionally when your bank rotates security tokens
  • Disconnect institutions you no longer want linked
  • Connection status is monitored automatically and we surface a banner when action is needed

See how bank sync works for details.

Security Tab

Change your password

If you signed up with email and password:

  1. Go to Settings > Security
  2. Select Change Password
  3. Enter your current password, then enter and confirm a new one
  4. Save

If you signed up with Continue with Google, your password is managed by Google — there is no NivoaFlow password to change. If you have forgotten your password instead, see resetting your password.

Enable two-factor authentication

We strongly recommend turning on 2FA from the same Security tab. Setup takes about a minute. See setting up two-factor authentication for the walkthrough.

Notification Preferences

Notifications are configured per household, not per user, and live under the household area rather than the main settings page. Open the household sidebar and select Notification Preferences to control which alerts the household receives — spending alerts, budget warnings, goal milestones, bill reminders, approval requests, and review assignments. See managing notification preferences for the full list.

Critical operational emails — trial warnings, payment failures, security alerts — are always sent regardless of these toggles.

Data & Deletion Tab

From the Data & Deletion tab you can:

  • Export your data — download a complete JSON export of everything in your account. Available on every tier including Free. See exporting your data.
  • Reset financial data — clear all transactions, accounts, categories, rules, and budgets but keep your login and preferences. Useful if you want to start fresh without deleting your account.
  • Delete your account — start the deletion grace-period process. You can choose a 7-day or 30-day grace window. See deleting your account.

Your data belongs to you, and we make it easy to take it with you or remove it entirely.
